Now, about gym music, what exactly do you mean? Like, songs that are good for listening on the gym? For that, i guess well produced albums/songs really create a nice balance. I don't know what maybe would fit into the style you're looking for, but when i go for walks, i honestly love a well produced record. I always listen to Loveless, Ants from Up There (by Black Country New Road, one of my favorite bands), In Rainbows, stuff like that. Soul music is really captivating, like Innervision by Stevie Wonder which is reallly well rounded. New Wave is also interesting, Talking Heads' Remain in Light sure gives a lot of energy and i personally love their sound. Bossa Nova is also cool, as it's really chill and vibey, Getz/Gilberto is a great one. For me, it sort of works like great background music due to how full sounding it is, with lapses where you get immersed with it while you do your thing; like a natural atmosphere. One album i want to get into that the production is really acclamed, it's Aja by Steely Dan.
It's quite hard to find such immersive dream pop/shoegaze music as good as them (i like Ringo Deathstarr, they have a cool song called "Do It Every Time" but the songwritting isn't even close to being memorable and they don't work for albums), but i really recommend Spacemen 3's excelent "The Perfect Prescription" (i'd say the key track is Walking with Jesus, the best versions of the tracks are the "Forged Prescription" versions, here's a playlist i've made of the album with the proper versions: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL5GPmCc68HbPHxidUV29STBOjKePQ8-7_ ), great concept album about the downfall of a man and his use of drugs with this sort of religious in the middle of his trip, beautiful soundscapes and really immersive; soon this band became Spiritualized, which has the acclaimed "Ladies and Gentlemen we are floating in Space" album, which is great as well, way more emotional in a personal way in its songwritting, the self titled song and "I Think I'm in Love" (one of my favorite songs ever) are outstanding.
The cool thing about Spacemen 3 as well, is that they have quite a versatile catalog that fits into a taste of MBV and Slowdive, their last album has really transcedent danceful songs mixed with emotional filled songs, the first one has a loveless-like wall of sound with punk attitude, etc.
About MBV, during the Pandemic, i Kevin saying in a interview that soon they would release a 40 minute album, 2 or 3 eps and a double album, when i found out about this, i was shocked. In a way, considering how perfeccionist Kevin and the crew seem to be (taking into they released MBV, an album from 1997, only in 2013), it should take a while, but i'm happy he's sporadically active talking his pedals and stuff, step by step getting closer to new stuff. There's a really cool 2 video series where he talks about his with the fender guitar, his techniques and all the good stuff, he's a really cool guy to listen to, ngl. This is a track i managed to find that was included in the pedal he's selling: https://youtu.be/5qkSSXhWviI
