To Be Hero isn't the best anime ever. It's not the best comedy nor is it the best action or drama. What it is, is a surprisingly charming collection of crude humour and low-brow poop jokes with an unexpectedly touching, if perhaps shallow given it's short episodes and mostly being dedicated to gags, underlying plot. It's definitely not the best anime, but it's not exactly trying to be. It's trying to be a silly little comedy that you can just enjoy on a base level and it succeeds at that. Is rating a kinda dumb poop-joke anime a 9/10 maybe a bit much? Sure, but ... I enjoyed every second of it and even enjoyed a rewatch after a few years of my initial viewing.

Baron Omatsuri was a one of a kind masterpiece. The market is flooded with "slop" shounen movies where every popular character shows up and it's simply a big promotional action scene the entire movie. Dragon Ball does it. Naruto does it. My Hero Academia does it. Even some other One Piece movies do it such as STAMPEDE or RED. They have some flimsy reason every fan favorite shows up at one location and fights some omega-tier villain, the hero usually gets a one-time power up they can never use again after that fight to win and it's just fan service porn.

Baron Omatsuri is unique in ... actually having a plot, having unique animation and exploring psychological themes such as the nature of friendship and feelings of loss and despair, rather than just OOOO THIS VILLAIN SOOOOO STRONG. You also quite literally don't feel quite like you're watching One Piece as it departs so drastically from the main style of story telling and feeling of the series and that's a GOOD THING. If it was just gonna be more of the same it may as well be a filler arc. It's experimental. It's raw. It's visceral. It gets dark in a way shounen rarely ever does. It explores themes antithetical to the main story such as nihilism. It does all of this while also being funny and light-hearted at times early in the film and having very quirky designs and character personalities as one would expect from One Piece. It's just a shame that the industry didn't take a note from this movie and shounen movies continue to be soulless action porn to this day.

The definition of corporate media content slop.

GT Remastered brought to you by the people who revived Freeza (twice) to be an antagonist and made a movie about Doctor Gero's fat grandson making a giant mentally impaired red Cell copy that's as powerful as the strongest beings in the multiverse. After rinsing off and reusing Freeza and Cell was it not predictable next they would come for Majin Boo? Daima is a completely soulless endeavour to print more money from merch that will come out in the coming year and other related media (gacha units, blu-ray sales ETC.) The plot is utterly bland in every possible ... way, somehow the pacing is simultaneously dragging it's feet in some episodes then rapidly blitzing through events that feel like they should take much longer in order to fit into a small 20 episode window. Nothing about this anime captures any kind of magic or feeling of adventure whatsoever as our characters blitz around the world between goals rapidly and experience very little of this new world around them. Daima re-treads ground from the original series as well as GT heavily, reusing character archetypes, jokes and more. More retcons to things and more contradictions with previous statements just as GT and Super did before it and more bloated 'world building' that struggles to fit into established lore.

IF Toriyama had the ion to tell another story again (big if considering how soulless both this and Super have felt and the way they seem to just be trying to introduce maximum characters and forms to use for merch purposes) then he would have been much better off telling an entirely new one than trying to bash the already tortured and broken Dragon Ball franchise into the mould of a JRPG fantasy video game style story.

Really good up until Greed Island. From then on it's a huge slog on massive narrator monologues explaining things directly to the viewer which gets worse and worse, culminating in the final arc being borderline unwatchable for all the constant interruptions and pacing issues. Not to mention the power creep. Dragon Ball and Naruto are constantly given guff for their power creep, even One Piece is somewhat with the haki system but Hunter x Hunter has got to be the worst example in all of shounen anime. The amount of times enemies are like... Legendarily strong in the lore then entirely overshadowed by the next ... set is wild. Also the Greed Island villain has to be the single lamest, unintimidating and boring villain in all of anime history. The first half? 10/10. The second half? 3/10 because of the ungodly pacing issues even though the Chimera Ant Arc with GOOD pacing might arguably be the best arc in all of shounen anime. The core story is fantastic but the pacing makes you want to saw your own head off with a butter knife.

I originally dropped this series in the first few manga chapters of this season and I feel 110% justified in that now watching the season. The longer My Hero ran the worse it got. The Deku getting SIX powers point made me lose interest immediately but it only got worse past that with every other character getting the most insanely unhinged power up deus ex machina moments to further the plot. I plan to hate watch the rest of it, partly because I hate myself and believe I deserve the suffering but mostly because I love hate reviewing shit media by shit authors.

P.S. if there ... is ever another Selkie IT'S CUTE... IT'S NOT CUTE... joke I will end myself. Bro, they played that shit like 4x an episode as a joke. Horikoshi should be ashamed to exist for doing that unhinged shit.

It was hard for me to get through this anime but I'm trying to rate it objectively. This anime is one of those that is all about exaggerating a hobby or niche interest with dramatic cuts. If you're intensely interested in cocktails and bartending then maybe you'll adore this anime and enjoy watching a character drinking a cocktail having an life changing moment from how the main character mixed the whiskey and the soda water SO WELL, but if you're looking for something with even a scrap of actual plot or characters that deviate from the most bland possible mould, you'll be so bored your ... soul might just leave your body while trying to watch this.

Personally I'm not much of a cocktail fan so it doesn't really speak to me. I'm more of a fan of enjoying a good single malt whiskey neat with a lunch or dinner meal. That being said I can appreciate that the temperature of a beverage can really change the flavour profile as the anime points out many times over. P.S. Japanese Whiskey sucks balls. Just the worst.

As a general rule of thumb Shounen anime movies are pretty s**t. They have pretty crappy antagonists, no real plot and just have every mildly important or popular character show up for 10 seconds of screen time for some contrived reason. Commonly the main character will get a single-use powerup (Naruto will get a new one-use Rasengan, Goku will get False Super Saiyan, Deku will get some glove that lets him use 100% punches then it never appears again.) One Piece MOSTLY follows the trend pretty well, although I think it's movies tend to be much better than the average shounen slop.

Most of the villains ... are better written and more compelling, single-use power-ups aren't given out like candy either. However, Film RED is easily one of the worst One Piece movies, up there with STAMPEDE. Uta completely sucks as a character. Extremely powerful, related to important main characters, retconned in despite no previous mentions... Is this a character written by the manga's author, or an 11 year old girl's self-insert OC? Nonsense plot. Gear 5 hype moment for no plot reason. Just pure slop.

It's kind of fitting for Dragon Ball to bring us back to the Cell Arc after having revived Freeza and milked him for every inch of nostalgia they could get from him. It is also rather fitting considering it's basically the last time the writing in Dragon Ball was any good, with VERY few exceptions [*cough* DBS Broly *cough*]. Fans have been arguing for an eternity about if Super or GT are worse, both of which have their positives and negatives, this movie however really doesn't have much in the way of saving graces.

The slice of life aspects of the movie were one of them, ... something refreshing to see from the Dragon Ball Super series that has so far been dominated almost entirely by action and fighting arcs with little focus on things like the daily lives of characters. The soundtrack, too, was rather well done and lended itself well to the feeling of the movie and for the most part the CGI was of better quality than I expected.

That's about all I can say in the way of positives. The character designs for new forms for familiar of the cast can only be described as ATROCIOUS. The designs featured in this movie honestly feel like they were lifted directly from the sketchbook of a young teenage fan from the 90's. The latter part of the movie is an almost carbon copy of the Cell Arc retold, but infinitely worse. It comes complete with a 1:1 copy of one of the single most iconic scenes in the series but without ANY of the emotional weight that made the scene the first time around, which frankly feels like it majorly devalued the original scene with this cheap knock off.

Overall I think this movie was an absolute hot mess, as a fan of Dragon Ball for the last two decades. This movie could have MAJORLY benefited from some more originality from the writing, better fight choreography and some better design work. It majorly dropped the ball in each of those regards.

A wonderfully eccentric series. Something out of the ordinary and not just another trope stuffed carbon copy of another series. The art is mostly quite good, minus points for some ugly CGI at times but it's not very prevalent. Reasonably funny and obviously a love-letter to Japanese bathing culture... Feels like it could have had a little more focus on Roman culture in it though.

The part I enjoyed the most in watching this were the wonderful educational segments with the author at the end of each episode. I learned a lot of cool things watching them and it encouraged me to try to mimic some ... of the food I saw in it which was quite enjoyable.

What is there to say about an utter waste of time? Boring, repetitive 'jokes' that the characters scream-explain right after they happen. haha character get mad huehue... Characters are the epitome of shallow one-note walking punchlines. Just loli-bait and it doesn't even have the decency to stand put among the rest of the loli-bait as being particularly good at anything or memorable.

The animation, art quality and sound design were at least decent enough, the only thing keeping this abortion of an anime from being a flat 1 outright.

About as funny or enjoyable as a colonoscopy performed with a stick-blender.
