Mysteries are an interesting genre. Instead of keeping you happy the whole way through the telling, there's a firm barrier set in place: there is the confusing, vexing beginning, and the (hopefully) satisfying and enlightening ending. Higurashi is a keen example of this, to such an extent that there are entire arcs that end with no explanation whatsoever, and hence are not very enjoyable. The tradeoff to this is that when you finally get to the arcs that answer your questions, you get some immense satisfaction. So in order to get any enjoyment out of the "Atonement arc", you've first got to read the "Demoned ... away" arc. And assuming you have done this, you are in for an excellent and engrossing horror mystery.

Story: Very entertaining, frequently disturbing, and very satisfying answers to some of the questions posed so far. This arc opens up its own mysteries, and you will finish this series even more invested in figuring out what the hell is going on in Hinemazawa in 1983.

Art: Well done, good blend of cutesy character designs and disturbing content

Character: Same classic Higurashi cast, but theyre uilized to some of their best yet in this rendition, because we finally begin to understand some of the underlying motivations that drove everyone crazy in the first place.

Enjoyment: Just really fun to read, and leaves you wanting even more.

Overall: Would highly reccommend.

The perfect higurashi arc. Everything about it is so well done. the characters and the story was absolutely amazing. i love how they made keiichi and renas character in this chapter, it definitely gave them a lot of depth. it also nailed everything higurashi is about perfectly. Trust, Mystery, and Friendship. A great ending as well. The art is definitely also some of the best art the series has to offer yet. My only issue with this arc is how it serves more questions rather than answers.

Overall, the perfect higurashi arc. It could be better if it served more answers though. 9.5/10

Note: I hate quantifying a manga scoring in multiple categories - story/characters/pacing etc - because to me that's just min-max type of scrutiny that dilutes the holism of the entire work. So, I'm going to score the entire manga as a whole and nothing else and tell you why I liked the manga.

Rena..

It was personal belief that Rena was "Higurashi" (the embodiment of the work, not the cicadas). Every Xbox profile, Every Profile, Every thing I can use Rena's name, I use it. I currently own a scooter. Its a slim and girly looking scooter. Can you guess it's name? It's Rena. And although ... it took me 10 years to name it with a name that'd fit - Rena fits.

And this manga is Rena. And Rena is Higurashi. So this manga is Higurashi.

There's nothing this manga really does bad tbh, It shows Rena and more Rena is always better, but ultimately, my enjoyment isn't a 10 and was at an 8 because.. it just didn't move me like Arc 7 did, you know? I don't know if it's on me or the manga, but it is what it is.
