Your Forma

In an alternate 2023, the Your Forma, a miraculous "smart thread" technology initially developed to treat a massive outbreak of viral encephalitis, has become an integral part of daily life. But these convenient devices come with an invasive drawback—they record every sight, sound, and even emotion their s experience.

For electronic investigator Echika Hieda, diving into peoples' memories via the Your Forma and hunting for evidence to solve the toughest crimes is all part of a day's work. The problem is, she's so good at what she does that her assistants literally fry their brains trying to keep up with her. After putting one too many aides in the hospital, the top brass finally furnish Echika with a partner on her level, a brilliant yet cheeky android named Harold Lucraft. Does this unlikely duo have what it takes to resolve their mutual suspicions and avert a deadly technological infection from sweeping across the globe before it's too late?

It is really disappointing to see people not truly understanding the way this anime starts and how this anime is represented. The anime intentionally skips the introduction and explanation of the whole "Your Forma" and Brain dive thingy. Instead of that, they visually show us what it actually is. The anime is made in a way where it introduces characters and events early on, but then later it explains the past events and discuss different characters so that we THINK, and make a connection to all the parts of the puzzle ourselves.

As I have not read any manga or light novel of this, my review ... will purely be based on the anime (I recommend reading the synopsis before starting the anime). The anime starts of explaining how there is a new technology which shows daily life information etc and is very convenient (which refers to "Your Forma"). The second thing they explain is how there are humanoid robots in that world but they are imprinted with the laws of respect which don't allow them to harm humans and only be useful to them. In the very first scene they show how the main female MC, Echika, dives into the brain of another guy to search for information, (this is made possible by this new "Your Forma" technology).

They don't directly explain all the , but they show scenes which allow us to understand these (which is what makes a mystery anime more engaging and exciting imo). The theme of first arc in the anime is that a humanoid robot (which they call Amicus Robots) attacked humans. The story only gets more interesting from here. What I am trying to say is that the execution of the anime is amazing and it doesn't feel like a info dump if you pay enough attention. For example, there is a girl introduced at the starting of the anime named Bigga, but in episode 1, she just goes shopping with the 2 main mc; information about her is revealed in episode 3 when she was needed. This is the pattern this anime follows, where it introduces characters and events early on, but then slowly but surely, explains them one by one when they are needed.

Story: 8/10
The Story revolves around solving new cases, and also uncovering the tragedies of the past. But one of the main features of the story is how every event and every interaction has a great deal of impact on our leading MCs character development.

I don't know about others, but I have been a huge fan of android type anime such as Plastic Memories, Love Flops, Beatless, and this anime somewhat follows the same route of android-human romance INDIRECTLY, though I don't know how far it will take the "romance" genre.

Music/OST: 9/10
Personally, both the ED and OP were bangers and one the best ones this whole season (though I don't like how they explain the Laws of Respect before the OP every single episode). The overall music used between the episodes is decent as well.

Animation: 8/10
This anime's animation quality is on par with what a good anime in 2025 should have, but they didn't just stop there, they actually paid attention to details. The eye movements, the expressions, the emotions and the overall animation of the character's movement is very smooth.

Overall: 8/10
Personally, I think this is a great mystery anime and I would love to see a season 2 of this. It is not like your average mystery anime where it's all about solving cases, it also explores how, with the increasing advancement in technology, new dangers arrive and new possibilities emerge, and what affect it has on different societies of humans.

P.S. I really liked the lore (like how the source code of Harold is inspired by Kabbalah ), the extra detail shown on Your Forma (like there was a scene where a apple tree was planted which was grafted from the apple tree which made newton discover the theory of gravity) and how they included references and names from real locations.

Stylish Setup, but Substance Struggles to Keep Up

Your Forma sets out with a compelling premise, a futuristic world where memories can be extracted and investigated, but quickly finds itself bogged down by its own weighty ambitions.

The series opens in medias res, dropping viewers into a dense cyberpunk setting with minimal orientation. While that can work for some, here it feels more disorienting than intriguing. The show leans heavily on technobabble, often overwhelming rather than immersing, and its mystery elements fall surprisingly flat. In several cases, the “brain dive” mechanics feel unnecessary, uncovering clues that should’ve been easily spotted by standard detective work.

Characters are another weak ... point. Echika, our emotionally distant protagonist, maintains a cold, monotone presence. While her android partner Harold is meant to offer contrast and levity, his personality quirks feel more like preprogrammed gimmicks than genuine charm. Their dynamic, central to the show’s progression, lacks real tension or warmth.

The pacing doesn’t help. Early episodes rush through developments, offering little room to build suspense or emotional investment. Plot points land with a thud instead of a punch. Despite its sci-fi aesthetic, the structure slips into formulaic “case of the week” rhythms, making it feel like a generic procedural in futuristic clothing.

Visually, the animation has its moments, but consistency is an issue. Episode 3 in particular suffers from rough cuts and uninspired visuals that undermine the intensity the story tries to deliver.

Final Thoughts
Your Forma has the framework of a smart, stylish thriller, but its execution struggles under the weight of its own concepts. It may still find its stride in later episodes, but so far, it’s more form than function.

Bro, I spent 10 minutes looking for the first season of this anime because it starts out SO CONFUSING, but as it turns out, this IS the first season. They skipped AN ENTIRE VOLUME OF CONTENT.
WHAT? WHY? God

Such a shame, can't keep up with things I know nothing about, doesn't even captivate the interest of the viewer, you're meant to build up your characters and make the viewers know them and become attached to them, not skip to "the good part".

A terribly executed anime for what seems to be a wonderful light novel and manga; just go read them instead.
