Ijiranaide, Nagatoro-san 2nd Attack

Hayase Nagatoro and Naoto Hachiouji have grown closer: the girl spends more time than ever in the art club room with her senpai. Although he is always on edge, Naoto no longer seems to mind Nagatoro's presence. Time and again, Naoto demonstrates his hidden, cool demeanor, and Nagatoro displays her possessive tendencies. However, they still can not seem to completely close the distance between them. It is clear to everyone else that the pair have feelings for each other.

For Nagatoro, there is nothing more entertaining than toying with Naoto. But as the girl shows no plans to stop teasing her senpai, it is only a matter of time before they realize how they truly feel.

tl;dr: A sequel season that’s still pretty good but is somewhat losing its charm.

The second season of Nagatoro picks up where the first left off. Nagatoro still teases Senpai, but its not that serious and it’s never to the degree that he really seems to mind. To be honest, it all feels really casual and kind of like background noise. What is being focused on instead this time is better fleshing out Nagatoro, Senpai’s character development, and actual proper relationship development between the two.

Fleshing out Nagatoro was decent, but not particularly engaging. We see a bit of her older sister, who’s amusing in how similar ... she can be to Nagatoro, but beyond that there isn’t much more to her in what little of her we see. We also get background and somewhat of a character arc for Nagatoro. She previously had a strong interest in something, due to a fear of failure she lost that interest, but Senpai helps motivate her into picking it up again. This is incredibly simplistic and to be honest feels pretty rushed. All in all, I suppose it’s nice to get to know Nagatoro better, but that’s about it.

Senpai’s character arc I don’t really like. He’s gaining more confidence and becoming more proactive, which is pretty nice to see. However, the framing around this is less him becoming more comfortable with himself or developing more as an artist or anything like that, but more so in the direction of him becoming more of a normie for a lack of a better way to say it. It emphasizes him trying to become physically stronger and trying to improve his appearance. Him switching from glasses to s is supposed to be an inflection point, but I can’t say I’ve ever been a fan of the whole ‘the glasses gotta go’ trope, so I rather dislike his new look.

Their relationship development is decent enough, but it’s also becoming a pretty generic innocent teen romance. As mentioned, the teasing is completely lacking in bite so their dynamic is just two kids that clearly love each other but are evasive in order to not have to it it. I know I complained that Nagatoro was too cruel at the beginning of the first season, but I feel now its gone too far in the other direction. It’s a pretty solid execution of a simple teen romance but it doesn’t really feel as unique as the first season. The comedy also just isn’t as good in of the main couple. The comedy focused around the side characters, such as Gamou and the club President, is still great though so overall I would still say the comedy is good, but less so than the first season.

The art and animation are slightly weaker, but overall still pretty good. Though I would have to say I’m not fan of the way Nagatoro is starting to be portrayed at times. I like her wiggling and such, but her being portrayed as just a black blob is kind of strange. The OP kind of sort of has the same concept as the OP of the first season but isn’t as good in of the song or visuals. The ED I would have to say is better in of both aspects this time. The soundtrack was also surprisingly good.

Mixed Feelings

An acceptable sequel to a brilliant first season, this follow-up sees a decline in some areas yet remains engaging. It's recommended for those new to the manga, non-manga readers, or fans eager to see the story animated. Despite not matching the quality of Season 1 or the manga, it's a worthwhile watch, rating a 6/10.



The season felt like a downgrade from the first. The animation often appeared static and cheap. A favorite manga gag, Eldrich-toro/Noodle-toro, didn't translate well on screen. While some scenes were visually appealing, the pacing and delivery of humor struggled to capture the manga's charm. Anticipating a quality akin to Season 1, ... this season's shortcomings were pronounced, particularly in its inferior comedic and dramatic impacts.

Season 1 excelled in adapting the source material, but Season 2, despite my high hopes and the manga's improvement, was a letdown. The narrative and characters were solid, though hampered by poor execution. The new characters were hit-or-miss, with some successfully mirroring their manga counterparts.

The animation was lackluster, albeit still above average for a rom-com. The sound design was competent, with decent opening and ending themes. Some OST choices detracted from scenes, but overall, they were effective. Voice acting was a highlight.

In summary, while Season 1 and the manga are superior, Season 2 was still enjoyable, earning a high 6/10, possibly 7/10. This rating is a dip from Season 1's 8/10 and the manga's continued excellence. Compared to other shows I'd rate 7/10, Nagatoro S2 falls short this season. I'm cautiously optimistic for a potential Season 3, with moderated expectations if OLM is again at the helm.

The previous season bothered how the girl (Nagatoro) treated the boy (senpai) since instead of seeming like love it seemed like a toxic relationship of friends with bullying, but here they change and begin to show the love between the two protagonists, not only because it is seen that they really do love each other but because they are already beginning to show that they appreciate each other.
That if, with the above said, it does not mean that the series is made overnight into a good series, it still has its deficiencies, which is that they do not innovate at all in the genre of ... adolescent love and it can become a series of lots of love that I hope will not be the case in subsequent seasons, where the characters do not say anything until the end of the season, as it is in this case, which is when the best of the entire season happens.
It is a season that although it clearly improves more than its last season, it does not offer us anything else, if you already saw last season I think you will like this one equally.

La anterior temporada incomodaba el como la chica (Nagatoro) trataba al chico (senpai) ya que en lugar de parecer amor parecía una relación tóxica de amigos con acoso escolar, pero aquí cambian y empiezan a mostrar el amor entre los dos protagonistas, no solo porque se ve que en verdad si se quieren sino porque ya empiezan a mostrar que se aprecian el uno al otro.
Eso si, con lo anterior dicho no significa que la serie sea haga de la noche a la mañana en una serie buena, sigue teniendo sus deficiencias que es que no innovan en nada en el genero del amor adolescente y se puede convertir en una serie de amor del montón que espero que no sea así en siguientes temporadas, en donde los personajes no se dicen nada hasta el final de temporada como es en este caso que es cuando pasa lo mejor de toda la temporada.
Es una temporada que aunque mejora claramente mas que su temporada pasada no nos ofrece nada mas, si ya te viste la temporada pasada creo que te gustara esta por igual.
